Water baptism is an outward sign of our inward relationship with Jesus Christ. In the New Testament the symbol and the reality of an experience are both seen to be equally important. To participate in the symbol was to profess a living reality in one’s heart. To profess the living reality of salvation was to also embrace the symbol of that reality.
Water Baptism - Three Symbols of Our Salvation:
1. Baptism symbolizes Christ’s death for sin and our death to sin. Romans 6:3
2. Baptism symbolizes Christ’s burial and our death with Him to the old life. Colossians 2:12
3. Baptism symbolizes Christ’s resurrection and our resurrection to new life. Colossians 2:1-2
As we are baptized, we begin then to step in obedience in the Christian life as God would have us walk. This is an important and meaningful step for a believer and it is the beginning of an exciting new life in Christ!
